Biographical/Historical Abstract: The Forced Migration and Refugee Studies department was officially established in 2000 as a program revolving around refugee issues. It has since developed into a regional center performing research, education, and outreach around all forms of international mobility. The department offers graduate degree and diploma programs, and supports research and projects, such as the Cairo Community Interpreters Project, Iraqi Voices in Cairo, and a library of journals, primary source materials, and conference, convention, and workshop publications.
Scope and Content Abstract: Materials include correspondence, reports, memoranda, and/or other forms of documentation pertaining to grants from the Ford and Mellon Foundations, the International Development Research Center, and International Organization for Migration. Joint Steering Committee Meetings discuss early development of the program. There is also information on the Conference on Refugees and Refugee Law in Egypt, and the FMRS seminar series, as well as research proposals and reports, and correspondence with AUC offices and departments.
