Biographical/Historical Abstract: Founded in 1953, the Social Research Center (SRC) is aimed at conducting multidisciplinary social research and training activities, including studies of population, politics, economics, health, family planning, and other social issues throughout Egypt and the Arab region. The SRC also provides a specialized research library and opportunities for publication. Among its most significant projects is the Ethnological Survey of Egyptian Nubia, which intended to research and document the region of Upper Egypt as the floods resulting from the construction of the Aswan Dam threatened to displace its people and culture. This project resulted in the Nubian peoples being one of the best documented groups in the Middle East region.
Scope and Content Abstract: Materials include correspondence, reports, memoranda, and/or other forms of documentation pertaining to the administration and department governance, conferences inside and outside of AUC, correspondence with AUC departments and offices, new campus facilities, personnel policies and files, project and research reports, outside collaborative and grant-funding organizations, workshops, meetings, and conferences.
