Biographical/Historical Abstract: This small department established in the 1960s originally specialized in American and British literature, but has since expanded to include courses on other literatures, and to participate in the American Studies program. In 1970 the English department adopted the freshman writing program, which concentrated on improving new students' written and oral English abilities.
Scope and Content Abstract: Materials include correspondence, reports, memoranda, and/or other forms of documentation pertaining to the American Studies program, Distinguished Visiting Professorships, faculty policies, freshman writing program administration and governance, and personnel records.
