| Biographical/Historical Abstract: | "Raymond F. McLain was president of the university from 1954-1963. An Ohio native, he pastored several Disciples of Christ churches there before his appointment as president of Eureka College in Illinois at age 31. Three years later, he became president of Transylvania College. At 49, he directed a study by the National Council of Churches on the nature and role of church-related colleges in the United States. At AUC he initiated a new organizational structure and arranged for the first Trustees meeting ever to be held in Cairo."
